United Nations Global Compact

United Nations Global Compact

Executive Summary: this could be a platform to meet and partner with businesses interested in advancing UN principles. This is not a funding platform, but could lead to permanent partnerships with corporations.

The Global Compact asks companies to embrace universal principles and to partner with the United Nations. It has grown to become a critical platform for the UN to engage effectively with enlightened global business” – Ban Ki-Moon.

Overall, the Global Compact pursues two complementary objectives:

  1. Mainstream “the UN ten principles” in business activities around the world, in the varied areas of Human Rights, Labour, the Environment and anti-corruption. http://www.unglobalcompact.org/aboutthegc/thetenprinciples/index.html
  2. Catalyze actions in support of broader UN goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

The UN Global Compact is not a funding platform or mechanism. It does not ask business participants or other stakeholders to fund another organization. Rather, the focus is on the implementation of the ten principles through engagement and collective action. CSOs are, however, encouraged to pursue partnership projects with participating companies and stakeholders.
