Phase I: Egypt

Citizenship and Democratic Participation in Political Transition contexts

This was the Phase I of the Euro-Mediterranean Mid-Term Project.

It was implemented in venues in Alexandria and Cairo (Egypt) from the 28th December 2012 to the 6th January 2013

The mid term project “Citizenship and Democratic Participation in Political Transition contexts” aims at developing youth work strategies fostering inclusive democratic participation in the public sphere.

The project is addressed to youth leaders and educators from the Euro-Mediterranean area and it is lead by MTÜ Trajectorya (Estonia) in partnership with the TFA (Egypt). It includes two residential capacity building courses and local actions implemented by participants in their local contexts.

The main aim of the first course of the mid-term project was to develop youth work strategies fostering inclusive democratic participation in the public sphere.

The Concrete Objectives for the First Phase of the course were:

    •  To share and critically explore the meaning of democratic citizenship and associated concepts;
    •  To develop competences central to Education for Democratic Citizenship in youth work through non formal education methodologies;
    •  To empower participants to initiate community based projects fostering inclusive democratic citizenship;
    •  To increase the knowledge about democratic participation experiences in political transition contexts, and in particular the “Egyptian revolution” process;
    •  To exchange experiences on youth work and social media promoting participation of young people in the public sphere.

This course was developed with the support of our partners in Egypt that supported the course content and co-ordinated the whole technical and logistical aspects of the project.
